Description
A unique dessert recipe combining the flavors of carrot, cardamom, and halva in a delicious tart.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup grated carrots (about 2 medium carrots)
- 1 cup halva, crumbled
- ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons honey
- ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch tart pan with removable bottom.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared tart pan. Prick the bottom with a fork and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
- While the crust is chilling, prepare the filling by mixing the grated carrots, crumbled halva, ground cardamom, ground cinnamon, milk, and honey in a large bowl until well combined.
- Remove the crust from the refrigerator and pour the carrot and halva mixture into the crust, spreading it evenly. If desired, sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is lightly golden.
- Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before removing from the tart pan.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the filling.
- You can substitute the walnuts with pistachios for a different crunch.
- For a dairy-free option, use almond milk and coconut oil in place of milk and butter.
