Description

A unique dessert recipe combining the flavors of carrot, cardamom, and halva in a delicious tart.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup grated carrots (about 2 medium carrots)
  • 1 cup halva, crumbled
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch tart pan with removable bottom.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Press the dough evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared tart pan. Prick the bottom with a fork and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  4. While the crust is chilling, prepare the filling by mixing the grated carrots, crumbled halva, ground cardamom, ground cinnamon, milk, and honey in a large bowl until well combined.
  5. Remove the crust from the refrigerator and pour the carrot and halva mixture into the crust, spreading it evenly. If desired, sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is lightly golden.
  7. Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before removing from the tart pan.
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the filling.
  • You can substitute the walnuts with pistachios for a different crunch.
  • For a dairy-free option, use almond milk and coconut oil in place of milk and butter.
