Description

A delicious twist on classic comfort food, these Chicken Parmesan Sloppy Joes combine ground chicken with marinara sauce and cheeses, served on toasted buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 chicken breasts, ground or finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped chicken and cook until browned, about 7-8 minutes.
  2. Add the onion and garlic, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes, until softened and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Toast the hamburger buns lightly in the oven or on a skillet.
  5. Spoon the chicken mixture onto the bottom halves of the toasted buns.
  6. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Place the buns under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the broiler, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and top with the other half of the buns.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the spice level by adding more or less red pepper flakes.
  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat buns.
  • This recipe can be made with leftover rotisserie chicken for a quicker meal.
