Ingredients

- 2 cups masa harina
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 cup cheese (optional for cheesy arepas)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine masa harina and salt.
- Gradually add warm water and oil, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
- If using cheese, fold it into the dough.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape them into discs.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook arepas for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For a sweeter version, you can add sugar to the dough.
- Arepas can be split and filled with avocado, meats, or other fillings.
