Description

Delicious and traditional Colombian arepas made with masa harina, perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup cheese (optional for cheesy arepas)


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine masa harina and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water and oil, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  3. If using cheese, fold it into the dough.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape them into discs.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook arepas for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a sweeter version, you can add sugar to the dough.
  • Arepas can be split and filled with avocado, meats, or other fillings.
