Description

A delightful recipe for Cozy Apple Kringle with Vanilla Glaze, perfect for warm gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, heated to 110°F
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for the drizzle)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence (for the drizzle)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sea salt, and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, activate the yeast by combining it with the warmed milk and letting it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  3. Incorporate the melted butter, egg, and vanilla essence into the yeast mixture, then combine this with the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for around 5 minutes until it’s elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm area for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.
  6. While the dough is rising, prepare the apple filling by mixing the chopped apples, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and pecans (if desired) in a bowl. Set this mixture aside.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  8. Once the dough has risen, gently deflate it and roll it out into a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  9. Distribute the apple mixture evenly over the dough, ensuring to leave a small border around the edges.
  10. Roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other, forming a log, and then twist it into a circular shape, pinching the ends together to seal.
  11. Transfer the twisted dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  12. Use kitchen scissors to make cuts along the outer edge of the circle, spacing them about 2 inches apart, and gently pull each cut piece outward to create a decorative twist.
  13. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  14. Once baked, allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  15. In a small bowl, mix the confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla essence to create a smooth drizzle. Pour this over the warm apple twirl just before serving.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a dash of nutmeg to the apple filling.
  • You can also swap out the apples for pears or mixed berries for a delightful twist.
  • For a festive flair, sprinkle a touch of cinnamon sugar on top before baking.
