Description
A delightful recipe for Cozy Apple Kringle with Vanilla Glaze, perfect for warm gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup whole milk, heated to 110°F
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for the drizzle)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence (for the drizzle)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sea salt, and sugar.
- In another bowl, activate the yeast by combining it with the warmed milk and letting it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Incorporate the melted butter, egg, and vanilla essence into the yeast mixture, then combine this with the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for around 5 minutes until it’s elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm area for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the apple filling by mixing the chopped apples, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and pecans (if desired) in a bowl. Set this mixture aside.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Once the dough has risen, gently deflate it and roll it out into a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick.
- Distribute the apple mixture evenly over the dough, ensuring to leave a small border around the edges.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other, forming a log, and then twist it into a circular shape, pinching the ends together to seal.
- Transfer the twisted dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Use kitchen scissors to make cuts along the outer edge of the circle, spacing them about 2 inches apart, and gently pull each cut piece outward to create a decorative twist.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Once baked, allow it to cool for a few minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix the confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla essence to create a smooth drizzle. Pour this over the warm apple twirl just before serving.
Notes
- For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a dash of nutmeg to the apple filling.
- You can also swap out the apples for pears or mixed berries for a delightful twist.
- For a festive flair, sprinkle a touch of cinnamon sugar on top before baking.
