Description

A traditional Croatian dish featuring tender beef simmered in a sweet sauce, served with delicious gnocchi.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into cubes
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 pounds gnocchi


Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the beef cubes on all sides.
  2. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and carrots, and sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in the red wine, beef broth, tomato sauce, and brown sugar.
  4. Season with paprika, salt, and pepper, then bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, until the beef is tender.
  6. Meanwhile, prepare the gnocchi according to package instructions.
  7. Serve the beef stew over the gnocchi.
