Description

A traditional Czech dish featuring tender beef cooked in a creamy sauce served with fluffy dumplings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds beef chuck, diced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 batch dumplings

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat and brown the beef cubes on all sides.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot; sauté until the onion is translucent.
  3. Sprinkle flour and paprika over the meat and stir to combine.
  4. Add the beef broth, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover. Cook until the beef is tender, about 1.5 hours.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the sour cream with some hot sauce from the pot, then stir into the pot. Allow to heat through without boiling.
  6. Prepare the dumplings as instructed, and serve alongside the beef and creamy sauce.
