Description

A delightful and easy-to-make French apple cake, perfect for autumn gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (approximately 2 cups)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and place a circle of parchment paper at the bottom.
  3. Toss the chopped apples with 1/4 cup of the sugar and let them sit to draw out their juices.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter with the remaining sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth and creamy.
  5. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in another bowl.
  6. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently until just blended.
  7. Fold in the apple mixture along with any juices that have formed.
  8. Transfer the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  9. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before moving it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
