Description

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm buttermilk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2–3 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm buttermilk and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in sugar, melted butter, and egg until combined.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–6 minutes, then place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Roll out dough to ½-inch thickness and cut into squares.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry beignets in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2–3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  7. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  8. Dip warm beignets into the glaze and let set briefly.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy these fluffy, sweet treats!
