Description
A traditional Greek dessert made with shredded phyllo dough, nuts, and a sweet syrup.
Ingredients

- 400 grams kataifi pastry
- 200 grams walnuts, finely chopped
- 100 grams almonds, finely chopped
- 100 grams sugar
- 200 grams unsalted butter, melted
- 500 ml water
- 400 grams sugar (for syrup)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, mix the walnuts and almonds with sugar.
- Take small sections of the kataifi pastry and unwind it.
- Layer the kataifi in a baking tray, brushing each layer with melted butter.
- Spread the nut mixture evenly over the kataifi.
- Continue layering with more kataifi and butter until all ingredients are used.
- Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by boiling water and sugar together with vanilla and lemon juice until it thickens.
- Once the kataifi is baked, pour the syrup over it while it’s still hot.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add ground cinnamon to the nut mixture.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful contrast.
