Description
A refreshing and spicy twist on traditional lemonade, combining the tartness of lemon with the heat of green chiles.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (approximately 10-12 lemons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups chilled water
- 1-2 fresh green chiles (like jalapeño or serrano), thinly sliced
- Ice cubes
- Lemon wedges and additional green chile slices for decoration
Instructions
- Start by preparing a simple syrup: in a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water with the sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring consistently until the sugar dissolves completely. Once done, remove from heat and allow it to cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, pour in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the cooled syrup. Mix them together until well combined.
- Gradually incorporate the remaining 3 cups of chilled water into the mixture, stirring until everything is evenly blended.
- Sample the lemonade and tweak the sweetness by adding extra sugar or water according to your taste preferences.
- Introduce the sliced green chiles into the lemonade. If you prefer a milder flavor, consider removing the seeds from the chiles beforehand. Allow the mixture to rest for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Serve the refreshing drink over ice and adorn each glass with lemon wedges and extra slices of green chile for an appealing presentation.
Notes
- For an extra spicy twist, consider muddling the green chiles in the bowl before mixing in the lemonade.
- Add fresh mint leaves for an invigorating flavor or swap out some of the water for sparkling water to create a bubbly version.
