Description
A delightful Lebanese dessert combining the sweetness of dates with the floral notes of orange blossom.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Medjool dates, pitted and diced
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup natural honey
- 1 tablespoon orange blossom essence
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- Zest from one orange
- Chopped pistachios for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Place the diced dates in a saucepan with 1/2 cup of water. Heat over medium flame, stirring occasionally, until the dates soften, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
- Transfer the softened dates along with any remaining water to a blender or food processor. Add the Greek yogurt, honey, orange blossom essence, vanilla extract, and sea salt. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the blended date mixture without deflating the cream.
- Gently incorporate the orange zest into the mixture, folding it in until evenly distributed.
- Spoon the mousse into serving bowls or glasses. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours to chill and set.
- When ready to serve, sprinkle with chopped pistachios for added crunch, if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the dates are well softened for a smooth mousse.
- Chilling the mousse is essential for the best texture.
- Chopped pistachios add a nice crunch and flavor contrast.
