Description

A delightful Lebanese dessert combining the sweetness of dates with the floral notes of orange blossom.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Medjool dates, pitted and diced
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup natural honey
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom essence
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Zest from one orange
  • Chopped pistachios for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the diced dates in a saucepan with 1/2 cup of water. Heat over medium flame, stirring occasionally, until the dates soften, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  2. Transfer the softened dates along with any remaining water to a blender or food processor. Add the Greek yogurt, honey, orange blossom essence, vanilla extract, and sea salt. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the blended date mixture without deflating the cream.
  4. Gently incorporate the orange zest into the mixture, folding it in until evenly distributed.
  5. Spoon the mousse into serving bowls or glasses. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours to chill and set.
  6. When ready to serve, sprinkle with chopped pistachios for added crunch, if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the dates are well softened for a smooth mousse.
  • Chilling the mousse is essential for the best texture.
  • Chopped pistachios add a nice crunch and flavor contrast.
