Description
A classic Lebanese dessert made with thin noodle-like pastry soaked in syrup and layered with sweet cheese.
Ingredients

- 1 pound kataifi pastry
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon rose water
- 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
- 1/2 cup crushed pistachios
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the kataifi pastry with the melted butter, mixing well.
- Spread half of the pastry mixture into the bottom of a baking dish.
- Layer the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the pastry.
- Top with the remaining kataifi pastry.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- While it’s baking, combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Allow to boil for 10 minutes, then remove from heat and add rose and orange blossom waters.
- Once the knafeh is baked, pour the syrup over it while hot.
- Let it cool, then garnish with crushed pistachios before serving.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh mozzarella.
- Adjust sugar syrup sweetness to taste.
- Serve warm for best flavor.
