Description

A delicious dessert bar made with layers of shortbread, caramel, and chocolate.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the flour and mix until combined.
  4. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  6. In a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, and butter over medium heat, stirring constantly until caramel forms.
  7. Pour the caramel mixture over the baked shortbread and let it cool.
  8. Melt the chocolate chips and add vanilla extract.
  9. Spread the chocolate over the cooled caramel layer.
  10. Chill until set, then cut into squares.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semisweet.
  • Make sure to let the layers cool properly before adding the next one.
