Description

A unique dessert recipe combining the flavors of miso and caramel with fresh apples in a tart.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pre-made pie crusts (9-inch)
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (about 4 cups)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup miso paste (white or yellow)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and butter. Stir until the mixture turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the miso paste until smooth. Gradually add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.
  5. Place one pie crust in a 9-inch tart pan. Layer the apple slices in the crust, arranging them in a circular pattern. Pour the miso caramel sauce evenly over the apples.
  6. Cover the tart with the second pie crust, cutting slits for steam to escape. Crimp the edges to seal.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a nutty flavor, consider adding 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans to the apple mixture before baking.
  • For a twist, try using different types of apples like Granny Smith for tartness or Honeycrisp for sweetness.
  • You can also drizzle extra miso caramel on top before serving for added flavor.
