Description
A warm and hearty Nepali dish made with lentils, served with rice and pickles.
Ingredients

- 1 cup lentils
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- salt to taste
- 2 cups cooked rice
- pickles for serving
Instructions
- Rinse the lentils and combine them with water and turmeric powder in a pot. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer until the lentils are soft.
- In a separate pan, heat oil and sauté cumin seeds, onions, ginger-garlic paste, and tomatoes until fragrant.
- Add the cooked lentils to the sautéed mixture, along with chili powder and salt. Simmer for a few more minutes.
- Serve the lentil soup hot over rice with pickles on the side.
Notes
- This soup is an excellent source of protein.
- Adjust the spice level according to your preference.
- Serve with different types of pickles for variety.
