Description

A traditional Swedish dessert known for its layers of sponge cake, whipped cream, and marzipan.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 batch marzipan
  • food coloring


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add butter, milk, and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  6. Cool the cakes before removing them from the pans.
  7. Whip the cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  8. Layer the cakes with whipped cream in between and cover the entire cake with cream.
  9. Roll out marzipan and cover the cake, smoothing it out.
  10. Decorate with food coloring as desired.

  • The cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
