Description

Delicious and colorful rainbow swirl candy apples that are perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work best)
  • 6 wooden sticks/skewers
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ tsp gel food coloring (in rainbow shades: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 Candy thermometer

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Remove stems and insert wooden sticks into the tops.
  2. Place apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  4. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  5. Attach a candy thermometer and cook until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  6. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract if using.
  7. Divide hot candy syrup into small heatproof bowls.
  8. Tint each with a different gel food coloring.
  9. Working quickly, drizzle small amounts of each color into a single dipping bowl to create a rainbow swirl effect.
  10. Holding the stick, dip each apple into the rainbow mixture, twisting slightly to coat evenly.
  11. Allow excess candy to drip off.
  12. Place apples on the prepared parchment paper to harden.
  13. Let apples cool completely until candy shell is firm and glossy.
  14. Serve within 1–2 days for the best crunch.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh apples that are firm and dry.
  • Experiment with different gel food colors for unique designs.
  • Store leftover candy syrup at room temperature for future use, if any remains.
