Description

A unique twist on the classic French dessert, using rye for a nutty flavor.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups rye flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup water


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a pan, melt the butter and add brown sugar, stirring until dissolved.
  3. Arrange apple slices in the pan and sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Cook for about 10 minutes until apples start to soften.
  5. In a bowl, combine rye flour with water to make a dough.
  6. Roll out the dough and place it over the apples.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before inverting onto a plate.

Notes

  • This dessert is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Adjust the sweetness by modifying the amount of brown sugar.
