Description
Savory Cheddar Chive Waffles are a delicious twist on traditional waffles, combining the rich flavors of cheddar cheese and fresh chives for a unique breakfast or brunch option.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
- 2 large eggs
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped chives until evenly distributed.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the buttermilk and melted butter, mixing well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or a little melted butter. Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron, using about 1 cup of batter per waffle (adjust based on your waffle iron size).
- Close the lid and cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, usually about 4-5 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully remove the waffles and keep them warm in a low oven while you cook the remaining batter.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the dry ingredients.
- Serve with a dollop of sour cream or a drizzle of hot sauce for added flavor.
