Description
Delicious Sicilian Rice Balls, or Arancini, are a popular Italian snack made with rice, breadcrumbs, and a savory filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups cooked Arborio rice
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, diced
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 cups marinara sauce (for dipping)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked Arborio rice, mozzarella cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until mixed well.
- Form the mixture into balls about the size of a golf ball.
- Roll each ball in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
- In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Fry the balls in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen before frying.
- For an extra kick, add some cooked sausage or peas into the filling.
- Ensure the oil is hot enough for frying to prevent soggy rice balls.
