Description

Sweet Chili Crispy Tofu Bites are a delightful snack that combines crispy tofu with a sweet and tangy sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F to keep the tofu warm after frying.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes, about 1 inch each.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches).
  6. Fry the tofu for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the tofu and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and rice vinegar.
  8. Once all the tofu is fried, place it on a baking sheet in the preheated oven to keep warm.
  9. Drizzle the sweet chili sauce mixture over the tofu and toss gently to coat.
  10. Serve warm, garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, bake the coated tofu at 400°F for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, instead of frying.
  • Add some chopped vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli to the frying pan for a complete meal.
