- 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F to keep the tofu warm after frying.
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes, about 1 inch each.
- In a large bowl, combine cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches).
- Fry the tofu for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the tofu and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a small bowl, mix together the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and rice vinegar.
- Once all the tofu is fried, place it on a baking sheet in the preheated oven to keep warm.
- Drizzle the sweet chili sauce mixture over the tofu and toss gently to coat.
- Serve warm, garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
Notes
- For a healthier option, bake the coated tofu at 400°F for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, instead of frying.
- Add some chopped vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli to the frying pan for a complete meal.
