Description

This classic yellow layer cake is light and fluffy, perfectly complemented by rich chocolate frosting.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup cream


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Stir in vanilla.
  6. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with milk.
  8. Pour batter into the prepared pans.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  11. For the frosting, mix cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and cream until smooth, then frost the cooled cake.
