- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for rolling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, brown the butter over medium heat until it has a nutty aroma. Let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine the brown butter and sugar until smooth, then add eggs and vanilla.
- Gradually blend dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
- Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll dough into balls and coat in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
- Place onto baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes until slightly golden.
- Allow to cool on wire racks.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, let the browned butter cool for a bit before mixing with sugars.
- Chilling the dough helps to maintain the cookie shape while baking.
