Description

Deliciously rich and chewy snickerdoodles enhanced with the nutty flavor of brown butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, brown the butter over medium heat until it has a nutty aroma. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, combine the brown butter and sugar until smooth, then add eggs and vanilla.
  5. Gradually blend dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
  6. Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Roll dough into balls and coat in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Place onto baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes until slightly golden.
  9. Allow to cool on wire racks.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, let the browned butter cool for a bit before mixing with sugars.
  • Chilling the dough helps to maintain the cookie shape while baking.
