- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup red food coloring
- 1/4 cup green food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add the egg and vanilla; mix until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into three equal parts.
- Color one part with red food coloring and the other with green, leaving the third part plain.
- Roll out each colored dough between pieces of wax paper into rectangles.
- Layer the colored doughs on top of each other and roll them up tightly.
- Chill the dough roll for at least 1 hour.
- Slice the chilled dough into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- For a festive touch, sprinkle with colored sugar before baking.
