Description

Delicious and festive, these Christmas Pinwheel Sugar Cookies are perfect for the holidays!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup red food coloring
  • 1/4 cup green food coloring


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla; mix until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into three equal parts.
  7. Color one part with red food coloring and the other with green, leaving the third part plain.
  8. Roll out each colored dough between pieces of wax paper into rectangles.
  9. Layer the colored doughs on top of each other and roll them up tightly.
  10. Chill the dough roll for at least 1 hour.
  11. Slice the chilled dough into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
  12. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  13. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
