Description
A quick and delicious recipe for traditional Indigenous fry bread, known as Bannock.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup water (add more if needed)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the vegetable oil and water, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Pinch off pieces of dough and flatten into discs.
- Fry each disc in the hot oil until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Can be served sweet or savory, try with honey or stew.
- Dough can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
