Description

A delicious and unique bread with a crunchy top and soft interior, perfect for sandwiches or to enjoy with butter.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • â…“ cup rice flour
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add all-purpose flour and salt to the yeast mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  7. In a small bowl, mix rice flour with enough water to create a thick paste. Spread this mixture on the top of the loaf.
  8. Let the loaf rise again for about 30 minutes.
  9. Brush with the egg wash and make slashes on the top if desired.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
