Description

A classic English custard, rich and creamy, perfect for desserts.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the milk and cream over medium heat until hot, but not boiling.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and smooth.
  3. Slowly add the hot milk mixture to the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let cool.

Notes

  • Custard can be served warm or chilled.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
