Deliciously sweet and buttery cutout sugar cookies, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 to 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass, dipped in sugar.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
- Let cool on wire racks.
- To make frosting, mix confectioners’ sugar with milk and vanilla extract.
- Frost cookies and decorate as desired.
Notes
- For softer cookies, do not overbake.
- Use different cookie cutters to make fun shapes for holidays.
