Description

A classic Swiss cheese fondue made with Gruyere cheese, perfect for sharing with friends and family.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 8 ounces Emmental cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 clove garlic, halved
  • 1 tablespoon Kirsch (cherry brandy)
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Freshly grated nutmeg to taste
  • Crusty bread, for dipping


Instructions

  1. Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the cut sides of the garlic clove.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the wine and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer.
  3. Gradually add the shredded cheeses, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
  4. In a small bowl, toss the cornstarch with Kirsch. Add to the cheese mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. Season with black pepper and nutmeg to taste.
  6. Transfer the cheese mixture to the fondue pot and keep warm over a low flame.
  7. Serve with crusty bread for dipping.

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, make sure the cheese is grated finely.
  • Feel free to add other dippables like vegetables or meats.
  • Traditionally served with a lighter dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc.
