Description
A classic Swiss cheese fondue made with Gruyere cheese, perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Ingredients

- 8 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 8 ounces Emmental cheese, shredded
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 clove garlic, halved
- 1 tablespoon Kirsch (cherry brandy)
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Freshly grated nutmeg to taste
- Crusty bread, for dipping
Instructions
- Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the cut sides of the garlic clove.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the wine and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer.
- Gradually add the shredded cheeses, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
- In a small bowl, toss the cornstarch with Kirsch. Add to the cheese mixture and stir until well combined.
- Season with black pepper and nutmeg to taste.
- Transfer the cheese mixture to the fondue pot and keep warm over a low flame.
- Serve with crusty bread for dipping.
Notes
- For a smoother texture, make sure the cheese is grated finely.
- Feel free to add other dippables like vegetables or meats.
- Traditionally served with a lighter dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc.
