- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt, and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Divide the dough and shape it into rings.
- Dunk each ring in a mixture of molasses and water, then coat with sesame seeds.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For a crispier texture, place a pan of water in the oven while baking.
- Simit can be enjoyed fresh or toasted with your favorite spreads.
