- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1/2 cup crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar.
- Add the vanilla and peppermint extracts, mixing until combined.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half; color one half with red food coloring.
- Roll out a tablespoon of each color into ropes, twist together, and form into a candy cane shape.
- Place on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Allow to cool before sprinkling with crushed candy canes.
Notes
- For extra flavor, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
